November News

Dear Parents and Caregivers         23 November 2015

Wow, what a term!! The things we have achieved which we couldn’t have done without you!

Photos of Children
Some of these were used to decorate our classroom calendar. If you would like a copy of your child’s photos, can you please see me about a convenient time, we can transfer the file on to a USB stick.

Reading
There has been wonderful progress in the children’s reading through your help and encouragement each evening. The formal reading programme which has been running all year will finish at the end of this week, as all the books need to be put away for the end of term.  We will still be doing work with words and reading each day but not bringing home a regular home reader. I encourage you to still review the essential sight words that your child brings home, visit the Hutt Library on a regular basis over the summer and read with your child.

Letter of this week: Aa

Mana Island
We had such lovely weather and a great group of parents that offered to come and help.  The kids had a marvellous time and are continuing to learn about animals and their habitats at school. We have just finished making a papier mache model and written about our time there. You will be able to see our photos of the trip and the process on our blog page to be located on our school website.
Sun Smart
It’s nice to see the children remembering to wear their sunhats whenever they’re outside. Some hats the children have are caps, these don’t give the children enough coverage over their heads and faces. The school require that they wear a full brimmed hat. A brim that goes all the way round, if the children don’t wear a full brimmed hat they are asked to sit on the deck in the shade.

Swimming
Swimming will begin next week and continue the week after. Our time is 11.20 am – 12.00 pm. Your child will need to have named togs and towel in a named bag. It is also encouraged that they have goggles so their eyes don’t get sore from the chlorine. We will be travelling with Room 6 there and back by bus. It is great to have parent’s help in changing the children. If you can, please let me know.

Assembly Item
This Friday it is our turn to present an item to the school. We will be joining with Room 4, Miss Browne’s class, to show what we have been learning in Sign Language. If we think we have a bit more time available, we will share our models of Mana Island.

Mana Island Trip

Mana Island

We had perfect weather for our Mana Island trip after it was postponed  from yesterday due to bad weather

We walked and walked and walked.

Sometimes we walked up STEEP hills!!

Some got really tired and have a rest along the way.

Some were very chilled out right from the beginning

We found the shell museum that Room 4 had left us.
Thanks Room 4!

The ranger came and talked to us.
He  showed us a kiwi egg and a lizard.
We even used a long drop toilet. Many of us wondered why it didn't flush.

We played on the beach and discovered interesting things.

Lots of wonderful parents came to help.

Thanks everyone
